A 25-year old Corentyne man was killed on the spot while doctors at the New Amsterdam Hospital were
battling to save the life of his friend, following a horrific smash up at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice last night.
Dead is Quadir Arkhan of Springlands, Corentyne, while 18-year old Avinash Persaud is listed in a critical condition.
The accident occurred around 21:00 hours.
Reports are that Arkhan, the son of a popular Springlands businessman, was driving a white Toyota Premio, heading north along the Crabwood Creek Public Road with Persaud as his passenger.
Eyewitnesses told this newspaper that the car first struck a culvert, (Blackwater Culvert) before slamming into a fence owned by businessman HN Sugrim.
Although one of the car doors was ripped off by the fence, the vehicle ended up several yards away, hitting a truck and spinning around before coming to a halt.
By the time rescuers rushed to the scene, Arkhan was already dead and they had to use ingenuous means to free the badly injured Persaud in order to rush him to the nearby Skeldon Hospital.
But his condition was so critical that medical personnel there could only offer little help before rushing him off to the much more equipped New Amsterdam Hospital.
Last night’s accident was the third fatal accident for yesterday.
The police are also investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 10:25hours yesterday which resulted in the death of pedal cyclist Pajendranauth Rambinjan, 50, of Perseverance, Mahaicony.
According to reports the driver of motor car PGG 751 was driving along the roadway when it is alleged that the pedal cyclist attempted to cross the road and was struck down by the vehicle. The incident occurred at Cotton Tree Mahaicony. The victim was picked up and rushed to the Mahaicony Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
