Sophia mechanic’s murder…
Enkeni Isaacs the woman who was being held by police for questioning into the suspected murder of her uncle, a mechanic Marlon Welcome, has been released from police custody.
Isaacs was released early yesterday morning by police but has been told to report to the Turkeyen Police Station every day.
Speaking with Kaieteur News yesterday, Isaacs, who has a three-year-old son, sought to clear up some reports in some sections of the media which reported that she was Welcome’s reputed wife. The woman who was in the company of her mother, Marcia Nurse and her grandmother Hubern Welcome said the reports were completely wrong and have been very damaging for her family.
Recounting her version of events leading up to her uncle’s death, Isaacs said she last spoke with him at around 21:00 hours on Thursday night.
The woman said she went to bed after indicating to her uncle that his cellular phone was left on the dining table. Early Friday morning, she awoke to strange sounds and her uncle’s groaning.
“At around 01:30…minutes to two I hear like two banging sounds consecutively and then I hear my uncle saying ‘ah ah’.
The woman said she was about to check on Welcome when she realized that she was naked, so she put on some clothes and ran outside in the living room shouting for ‘thief’.
Isaacs said when she ran into the living room she saw that the back door was open.
“I see like somebody running through the back door so I run straight outside and call out for my neighbors.”
Isaacs said when she ran to the back door she stumbled over someone on the floor. It was then she realised that the person was her uncle.
“When I run outside I call out for Aubrey, (a neighbor) I say come see something happen to Marlon and a next boy name Stayon and his brother they come and pick up Marlon and put him in a car and head to the hospital.”
Isaacs said Welcome was bleeding from a wound to the temple.
The woman said on the way to the hospital she kept checking to see if he was still alive.
Once at the hospital, Isaacs said that a doctor began attending to Welcome while she held his hand.
“A little while after the doctors ask me if I know this man dead…but all the way to the hospital I keep checking but he didn’t responding or anything”.
Meanwhile the dead man’s mother Hubern Welcome said her son’s sudden death has caused much grief for her family, particularly the circumstances surrounding his death. Mrs. Welcome said her son was the son any mother would want. She described him as a very jovial person who was always smiling in any situation. She said he would always act as peacemaker in any situation.
Welcome, a mechanic from ‘A’ Field Sophia, died last Friday while being treated at the Woodlands Hospital for a head injury.
Initial reports are that Welcome was struck in the head with a blunt object by person/s who invaded his home. However robbery has been ruled out as a motive. It was reported that the person/s gained entry to the house by removing three louver panes from a back window to the house.
A post mortem examination will be done today.
