Mining camp watchman may have been murdered for firearm

The person who strangled Kumar Plummer in a mining camp may have killed him with the intention of stealing a firearm.
Kaieteur News understands that police are questioning a man who had frequented the Arimu Backdam, Cuyuni camp at which the 53-year-old Plummer was employed.
According to a source, Plummer had told the suspect that he owned a shotgun. The man had reportedly asked to borrow the shotgun to hunt.
Investigators are questioning the suspect at the Bartica Police Station.
A police release stated that Plummer, of Line Path, Skeldon, was found at the site with his limbs bound with polythene rope.
Another length or rope was tied around his neck. A postmortem gave the cause of death as asphyxiation due to compound pressure to the neck.
Kaieteur News understands that Plummer had worked for several years with a miner who lives at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne.
According to a source, the watchman was left alone in the camp to look over mining equipment, while his employer and other workers shifted to another camp about an hour’s drive away.
He was reportedly last seen alive at around 05:00 hrs on Sunday.
Kaieteur News was told that persons, who were passing through the area on Wednesday, spotted Kumar’s bound body and informed the police.
It is still unclear if anything was stolen from the camp, since investigators have not returned from the location.
Kumar’s body was taken yesterday to the Lyken Funeral Parlour.
