Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and hosts Fruta Conquerors should start as favourites to advance in this year’s NaMilCo Football Festival which is set to continue today, at the Tucville ground.
In the opening fixture, GFC take on Flamingo from 18:00 hrs and that will be followed by the clash between Fruta Conquerors and Charlestown United at 20:00 hrs.
The curtain raiser should be an interesting affair and even though the more experienced GFC unit are favourites to move on, underestimating a steadily improving Flamingo team might not be the wisest thing to do.
Among those expected to appear for Flamingo are Ronald Belle, Jermaine Fletcher and Dwayne Layne, while GFC line-up includes some seasoned veterans in Terrence ‘Ole Head’ Lewis, a former national player along with Shad Fernandes, Cardel Tudor and Teashawn Blackman, all of who are capable of explosive performances on the day.
In the feature contest, homesters Fruta Conquerors though missing their influential talisman in Pernell Schultz and goalkeeper Colin ‘the next best thing’ Edwards should still prove too strong for Charlestown United.
They still possess players the quality of Marko Marcus, who has been in prolific form and has certainly shown admirable improvement over the past months, while the guile and calmness of captain Eon Alleyne and the energetic Jermain Junor, Trevon Lythcott, Delon Williams and Dwayne Lawrence are far too superior on paper for pundits to bet against a victory.
On the other hand, everyone football fans knows that on any given day, luck still exist and even though the opposition is clearly not as established as the young and emerging side from Tucville, they would be well advised not to take them too lightly.
Charlestown United is a team built around players who are more familiar with the Futsal style format, but many of them have been in the sport for quite a while.
Players such as Randolph Gravesande, Darren Benjamin, Conley Baxter-Dennis, Shon Anderson and Raulston Heyliger, Mark Pierre are on their roster and apart from the absence of being a cohesive unit as their opponents the team comprises players who could rise to the occasion.
