-PM confirms watchman strangled
Police are questioning a suspect in connection with the murder of 53-year-old watchman Kumar Plummer, whose bound body was found in a mining camp at Arimu Backdam, Cuyuni, last Wednesday.
A source said that the man is being questioned at Bartica Police Station. It is unclear whether investigators have any clues to link the detained man to Plummer’s death.
Meanwhile, a postmortem performed yesterday, revealed the cause of death as asphyxiation due to compound pressure to the neck.
Plummer, of Line Path, Skeldon, was found at the site with his limbs bound with polythene rope.
Another length of rope was tied around his neck.
Relatives said Plummer had worked for several years with a miner who lives at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne.
According to a source, the watchman was left alone in the camp to look over mining equipment, while his employer and other workers shifted to another camp about an hour’s drive away.
He was reportedly last seen alive at around 05:00 hrs on Sunday.
Kaieteur News was told that persons, who were passing through the area on Wednesday, spotted Kumar’s bound body and informed the police.
