The online news service demerarawaves.com headlines were bold; “Tripartite talks in jeopardy.” It quotes David Granger as lamenting that the talks are “precariously poised” and Khemraj Ramjattan as saying that he was thinking of asking his party to break off the tripartite engagement.
What a mess but only for the opposition. But most of all why are the opposition forces crying foul about President Ramotar’s accusation that APNU and AFC used violence to rig the 2011, a belief now shared by Roger Luncheon?
The PPP conned the AFC and APNU. It may be too late for both parties. While the tripartite talks were in progress, the PPP never demobilized its praxis. The PPP is not a party to do so. If anyone in the opposition thought that while the three-way confabulation was taking place at OP, the PPP forces were in the offices doing work, then, such a person is not fit to be in politics.
PPP forces have been going to flooded areas since the deluge arrived in Guyana weeks ago and lashing the opposition not with brooms but with big sticks. The mobilized crews include the President himself. In Mahaica, farmers were told that money is there to help them but the opposition is using its clout to block the release. From the time the PPP lost Parliament it invented another campaign, this one for the expected snap election. In keeping with its strategy, President Ramotar said that was in the interest of his party.
I wrote about that yesterday so no need for reiteration. So why this sudden shock by APNU and AFC on what Ramotar said and now the tripartite formation hangs in the balance? Because the PPP conned, outsmarted and outmaneuvered both APNU and the AFC. These two parties are limited in their politics and they have paid the price for it. APNU and the AFC did not want to be the ones to break off the talks because they have this obsession with wanting to appear as nice guys.
The PPP has no time for that political nonsense. The PPP has a job to do and its leading Stalinist, Gail Texieira is out in front doing it for the PPP.
Two very experienced social activists whose work is as old as any in the PPP, told the nation that the PPP was using the tripartite looking glass to demobilize the politics of the opposition. Those two gentlemen are Dr. David Hinds and Lincoln Lewis. Mark Benschop was nowhere around in the seventies when these two men were confronting Burnham but Benschop was astute enough to say on his radio programmes that the energy of the opposition is going to get used up in the tripartite talks.
David Hinds was semantically brutal. You could see he was finished with APNU. He knew APNU had immobilized Youth Coalition for Transformation because the new kid on the bloc was Mr. Tripartite. Interesting that since the protest began at UG, many AFC leaders were openly seen in the picket line. The list included Khemraj Ramjattan, Cathy Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Ramsaroop, Parliamentarian Trevor Williams, Region Six councilor, Cindy Sookdeo, Michael Carrington among countless others.
The UG staff and students are entering a month of protest but not one APNU official has peeped at the protest much less held a picket in the line.
APNU was not interested in protest; it had Mr. Tripartite on its side. Well, Mr. Tripartite is in trouble. The nice guys in APNU and the AFC couldn’t walk out of the confabulation because of the UG tyranny, because NCN is still the monopoly in Region Ten, because the preliminary inquiry into the treason charges has passed more than fourteen months, because overseers in the NDCs were being forcedly transferred, because NCN was its same depraved self, because the Chronicle was still in the gutter.
No devilish act by the PPP Government could get APNU or the AFC to walk away from Mr. Tripartite.
But the PPP was doing its thing while the two nice guys were waiting for action from OP. Now all of a sudden Mr. Tripartite is in trouble because The Donald said what was on his mind and The Roger has sided with him. The Donald and The Roger are plying their political trade.
The opposition should have been doing the same but they were waiting at OP for Mr. Tripartite to deliver to them what they should have been fighting for. So where do we go from here? The poor Guyanese masses will be told by the opposition parties to stay tuned for some important announcements.
