Feb 16, 2012 Letters
Dear Editor,
Management of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation wishes to issue a statement in response to the letter that was written to the editor of today’s (15 Feb. 2012) Kaieteur newspaper captioned, ‘I am being victimized by a security guard at GPHC’.
This letter is viewed with much concern for its implicit nature and as is the norm, management invited the complainant to a meeting to resolve the matter.
The complainant met with the hospital’s Chief Public Safety Officer and Public Relations Officer, in the presence of another witness, the Clients Relations Officer and during discussions with him, the following were noted:
1. The complainant in his letter implied that the incident was a recurring one, however he admitted that this incident occurred once in last week; and it was as a result of his blatant breach of the hospital’s policy regarding the solicitation of passengers in the compound.
Further, an eyewitness to the incident stated that the Public Safety Officer (PSO) refused the taxi driver’s entrance into the compound (in keeping with her duties) on the grounds of his verbally abusive nature towards her. It was also reported by other PSOs that the complainant habitually abuses the staff because they carry out their mandate firmly and impartially.
2. The complainant admitted to having initially made insightful remarks towards the PSO who allegedly responded in like manner, an action which will be reprimanded by management if/when confirmed.
3. The complainant stated that he made no effort to contact the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Michael Khan contrary to the letter; but the Chief Public Safety Officer. He however failed to return to the Officer to express his plight.
Management wishes to state strongly that Mr. Mangal’s statements about the hospital’s officer are libelous and untrue and as such, an apology or retraction is being demanded. By his own admission, he was the one that created the problem and he sought to use the media for his questionable intent.
Management, for the safety of its patients and staff, implores its officers to perform their duties steadfastly and will not tolerate any actions which will allow a collapse in the system.
It is noteworthy that Mr. Mangal stated that he did not issue ALL of the statements which were published in the newspaper.
Finally, management reiterates that the offices of the Clients Relations and Chief Executive Officer are opened (Monday to Thursday, 07:30h – 16:30h and Friday, 07:30h – 15:30h) to anyone who wishes to make a complaint about the performance of staff or service that would have been rendered, a course of action which is too often by-passed.
Mr. Michael H. Khan
Chief Executive Officer
Editor’s Note: Every word in the letter was submitted by Mr. Mangal
