Veteran photojournalist Ken Moore passes away
Veteran photographer and Golden Arrow of Achievement recipient Ken Moore passed away yesterday

at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation following a brief period of illness.
He was 72.
Considered by many to be the Caribbean’s leading photojournalist, Moore’s career spanned some 50 years, during which he captured poignant moments in the nation’s history.
Always immaculately attired, Moore worked at the Argosy, the Mirror and the Stabroek News, where he was employed as Chief Photographer. He also did freelance work for the Associated Press. Moore was awarded the Golden Arrow of Achievement by President Cheddi Jagan.
In a brief interview with Kaieteur News, Moore’s wife, Allison, reminisced on her spouse’s dedication to his craft, and the respect he commanded from his colleagues and the officials that he photographed.
“He could make Presidents pose for him again, if he’d taken a picture and felt that he hadn’t captured its true essence. That was accorded to him by (Presidents) Cheddi Jagan and Janet Jagan; and Mr. Hoyte and President Jagdeo.
“He had an eye for a picture, an eye for a story which could be captured in a picture. He was respected by all. He was always well outfitted, whatever the occasion.”
And the Guyana Press Association stated that Moore saw himself more as an artist than a photojournalist. He captured images that represented creativity at its best.
“Ken Moore was aggressive and tenacious in getting the whole story from as many angles of his lens as he could. His work largely predated the digital age, but he would spare no thought of shooting roll upon roll of film to obtain the story line he wanted.
“Moore never really missed the moment in his quest to put on film, a still image that would be seared in the memory of all those who viewed it. He was just as good a portrait photographer as one who pursued the news story.”
“His gracious but tenacious style and his work will continue to be etched in our memories.
“The Guyana Press Association salutes his sterling contribution. We extend our condolences to his sorrowing family, relatives, colleagues and friends.”
