Invaderz XI scored an upset victory over GT&T 10/10 defending champions, Wolf’s
Warriors XI, when action in the Preparatory T10 Softball Cricket tournament continued at the Leonora Primary School ground Sunday morning last.
Invaderz won the toss and batted, hammering the ball over the boundary from the first ball. Vickram Dhaniram lashed 64 (8×6) and received support from Khemraj Ramsundar whose rounded half century contained 7 sixes.
The pair compiled 96 in 5 overs before they were both sent back to the pavilion. Even after they departed, the runs kept flowing and their team end its innings on 170-5.
Wolf’s Warriors mounted a spirited reply but when Riaz Karim (30) and Safraz Karim (21) were dismissed coupled with the run out of star batsman Amreth Rai, the side crumbled.
Vickram Dhaniram was introduced in the 6th over and things went Invaderz way as he snapped up 3 quick wickets to quell any hopes of another victory by the Wolf’s Warriors team. Khemraj Ramsundar supported well with 2-12 from 2 overs to bowl out the Wolf’s Warriors for 132 in 9.5 overs.
Invaderz X1 will now advance to the quarter finals to commence upon the completion of the matches in the Georgetown zone. Leonora All Stars then defeated another U-15 team from their village Leonora by 4 runs in an exhibition affair.
In action in the Male Open on the Essequibo zone, Affiance Storm defeated Cotton Field SC by 4 wickets to take the Essequibo zone. Cottonfield SC batted first and scored 99-8 in their 10 overs (Thakoor Persaud 34; Yasir Mohamed 3-12 in 2 overs) Affiance replied with 101 -6 in 9.1 overs (Dinesh Mangal 63 (7×6); Ramesh Narine 2-22 from 2 overs).
The other results read: Male Open 10/10 Knockout East Berbice Zone: Karibee Boys defeated Port Mourant by 7 wickets.
Port Mourant batted first and scored 107-5 in 10 overs while Karibee Boys replied with 108-3 in 8.3 overs (Michael Romalho 35). Challengers XI made 132-9 in 10 overs (Lalta Persaud 44; Navin Singh 3-15) K&K Warriors replied with 85 all out in 8.4 overs (Navin Chan 46; Deonarine Ramnauth 4-13 from 2 overs. Star boys XI 117-6 in 10 overs and Zalata XI replied with 118-4 in 9.3 overs.
Females Open 10/10: Fazal Kayume Females defeated Young Achievers after the latter team made 78-7 in 10 overs. The eventual winners then cruised to 83-6 in 6 overs.
OVER 35 – 20/20 Round Robin: Trophy Stall ‘A’ defeated RRT Vipers after the winners batted first and scored 112-6 in 10 overs. In reply RRT Vipers made 41 all out. Farm XI then defeated Pine Star XI. Over on the East Coast, Farmers made 111-9 in 20 overs then limited Enterprise Masters to 89 all out in 13 overs.
