A Mahaica teen has been remanded to a juvenile holding centre after being charged with attempted murder of her parents and four siblings.
It is alleged that on Friday, February 10, last, at Handsome Tree, Mahaica, the teen laced a pot of hassar curry with a pesticide, monocrotophos that several of her family members then ate.
The matter was heard by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court. The charge was indictable and the teen was not required to plea. She is expected to make her next court appearance on Tuesday, February 24.
Sukdeo Dharamdat, 48, and his son Chaitram, 17, are currently battling for their life in the Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Dharamdat’s wife, Nandranie Sukdeo, 38, and his two daughters, Hemwanttie, 16, and Muneshwari, 13, remain in a stable condition in the Female Surgical Ward.
Initial reports are that their 14-year-old daughter confessed to the Police at the Cove and John Station that she had laced the pot of hassar curry with a potentially deadly dose of monocrotophos. The teen reportedly told investigators that she did the deed because her family was against her having a boyfriend.
