Quick action by ranks of a Tactical Services Unit (TSU) anti-crime patrol operating on the East Coast of Demerara, shattered the getaway plans of two bandits, minutes after they had robbed a 49-year-old female Accounts Clerk of her personal jewellery and cash.
The victim, Sarsawattie Singh of Foulis, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was held at gunpoint and relieved of the items while she was walking along the La Bonne Intention (LBI) access road, around 11:30 hours.
According to the police, the two assailants threw Singh to the ground and took away her jewellery valued at $210,000, along with her handbag containing $5,000, and escaped in a motorcar.
The police responded quickly to the report received and alerted mobile patrol units in the area.
Within minutes, ranks of a TSU patrol, acting on information received, stopped a motor car some distance from the scene and arrested the driver and two other male occupants.
The two men were searched and all the articles stolen from Sarsawattie Singh were found in their possession. They were also identified as the perpetrators by the victim.
The two suspects along with the driver, who all hail from Georgetown, are in police custody and charges will be laid shortly.
