Dear Editor,
Once again I am struck by awe and numbness of the AFC leadership. Looking at the Evening News on Tuesday December 13, 2011 and the statement made by Raphael Trotman, I was not surprised that the AFC failed to recognize the hard work of a vibrant woman as Valerie Lowe.
We are aware that Valerie and her team joined you late but her name is on your top up list. Was it just put there as a camouflage or a show piece to fool her? Had it not been for her crossing to your party do you think the AFC would have earned such a large percent of the Amerindian votes? We are also aware that the three persons on the Region Eight list were the chosen lot for the AFC slate.
None of them is a representative of Valerie’s team. So it would be a full team of AFC choice and none to represent those that shifted with Valerie and gave their support to the AFC.
Moses’s name was on the Region Six regional list; why is it that he could not have been chosen to represent Region Six instead on being chosen from the top up list? Why was Ramaiya chosen to represent from the Region Six list?
Is it because he could pay for all the TV programmes and put some money in the Party coffers? Why is it that the AFC has five persons from Georgetown and its environs selected to represent all its support in Region Four? Where is the representative from the rural areas of Region Four?
The AFC should have chosen Khemraj from the top up list, Cathy from the Region Four list, Valerie Lowe from the Top up List, Moses from the Region Six list, Poi from the Region Eight list, Raphael from the top up list because of his popularity in all the regions and someone who is learned enough to represented all of Guyana, not a youth from Georgetown.
What a disappointment once more in the AFC selection of MPs — have you people ever envisage what contribution Ramaiya and Trevor Williams could make in Parliament?
If Valerie had paid attention to the AFC politics she would not have made the mistake to join hands with the life leaders of the AFC who continuously betray the confidence of hard-working women.
June Brijmohan
Editor’s note: Valerie Lowe is a Member of Parliament
