A disabled woman who struggled from the day she was born, yesterday received a three-piece living room suite worth $ 239,999 from Courts Guyana Inc. through its Sports club.
Ruth Bart, 53, who received a home from Food For The Poor a few years ago told his publication that she is overwhelmed and forever “grateful” to Courts for the donation.
Bart said that her mother died when she was little, and since then she had been living with family members who ill treated her on numerous occasions because of her disability.
The woman said that she eventually ‘move out’ from her relatives and had been living in Friendship, East Bank Demerara with her ‘dream guy’ for five years now.
“I does do a little crafting and that does bring in the income,” Bart explained. “Ever since I got the house I have been struggling to furnish it but I never thought of a chair because I know I could not afford it.”
The woman who described the coming days as “hard and tough to make a living”, said that Courts is her number one choice when it comes to the poor owning “something in life.”
The President of Courts’ Sports Club, Ricardo Manbodh, said that the donation is part of “Courts giving back to the public”. It has been a contribution mainly from the staff at the furniture giant, he added.
