Ganga Persaud, the Anna Regina Town Clerk, has lost his battle with Leukemia. The 51-year-old Persaud died on Friday after three months in a City Hospital.
Persaud, who was born in Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, spent his childhood days at Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara before he made Essequibo his permanent residence.
Persaud worked as a supervisor at Guyana Stores, before, he was sworn in as Town Clerk in 2001. He served in that position until his death.
His sister-in-law, Neel, said that her brother-in-law was diagnosed with Leukemia after he underwent medical tests in Trinidad three months ago.
She added that Persaud was in high spirits on Wednesday last and asked for his family to be with him at the hospital.
Mayor Sammy Rampersaud said that he and Persaud shared an excellent working relationship over the last eleven years.
Persaud was also a member of the Essequibo Farmers Association.
