Helena #1&2 SC overcame a strong challenge from Cricket Zone USA and eventually prevailed by 2 wickets and take the top honours in the Upper East Coast zone when action in the finals of the Preparatory T10 Softball cricket tournament concluded at the Leonora Primary School Ground, Sunday February 5 last.
Helena will now proceed to the final eight and will join Linden’s South Star in the next round of the competition.
This match was among a handful that was completed after intermittent rains inundated the venue and forced the cancellation of some of the matches.
The results of the other completed matches are: Rambo XI defeated Leonora All Star XI “B” by 5 wickets and progressed into the semi finals while Invaderz mauled Ruimzeight SC by 91 runs in another completed semi finals match. In the second semi finals Wolf’s Warriors cruised past Rambo XI (in their second match) by 6 wickets while over on the Lower East Coast in the Male Open 10/10 knockout tournament Challengers XI defeated El Commandante by 34 runs.
Shortly before, Zalata XI was gifted a walkover from Top Level XI. Star boys XI then made light work of Success XI, prevailing by 4 wickets.
In the Over 35, 20/20 Round Robin tournament Success Masters XI defeated Farmers XI by 7 wickets while in the Male Open 10/10 knockout tournament at the Helena Ground Essequibo, Helene #1 &2 SC defeated De Hoop Bushrangers XI by 9 wickets.
The teams are vying for lucrative prizes including one hundred thousand dollars and a trophy for the winners in the male open category.
The runners-up will pocket forty thousand dollars and a trophy, while the man of the match in the finals receives ten thousand dollars and a trophy.
The winners in the female open category receive fifty thousand dollars and a trophy while the runners-up receive fifty thousand dollars and a trophy.
Twenty five thousand dollars will go to the woman of the match in the finals.
The winners in the Over 35 category will cart off seventy five thousand dollars while the runners-up receive half that amount.
The man of the match pockets five thousand dollars and a trophy.
