A businessman was yesterday treated at a city hospital after he was beaten by gunmen who invaded his jewellery Store on Sheriff Street.
According to reports, four gunmen invaded the Raj Jewellery and Fashion Store at around 09:45 hours yesterday.
This publication was told that the owner of the store Rudath Persaud, 56, was in the store when four men armed with handguns entered and held him up.
The perpetrators tied up the victim with duct tape, after which they took away his licensed .38 Taurus revolver, a quantity of gold and diamond jewellery, GYD$400,000.00, an undisclosed sum of US currency and a cell phone before escaping.
During the incident, Persaud was assaulted about his body and was taken to the GPHC where he was treated and sent away.
When Kaieteur News arrived at the scene, the businessman was being taken away by his relatives to see a doctor. The man’s face was visibly swollen and all he told this publication was that the men made off with everything he had.
