– hopes for more schools in Linden to part take in future
By Juanita Hooper in Barbados
Just like the University of Guyana and Tutorial High School, who are making their first appearance at the Relay Fair in Barbados today from 10hrs at the National Stadium, this would also mark first time for the Christianburg Wismar Secondary School (CWSS).
The school, which hails from Linden, will be looking to put Guyana on the map as they try to cop as many medals as in they could.
Kaieteur Sport spoke to the coach of the team, Moses Pantlitz who revealed that he has been working with the team for two months. It was gathered that he encountered a lot of challenges with the main one being working with all the athletes in one session, “Most of them are from the Upper Demerara Track Club and with that it’s hard to get all of them at one place at one time to conduct train sessions, so a few will work with me while the major trains with their club”, Pantlitz said.
Despite the challenges which the coach disclosed, he informed that for the two months he worked with the few athletes which are not in clubs, he had seen improvements.
CCWSS team which comprises of 12 athletes, with three athletes being U14, will be partaking in the under 17 category of the relay fair.
The coach said that expectations from the team is good and hopes that the other ambassadors of Guyana will keep the flag flying high.
Pantlitz added that he hopes that his team can attend the relay fair annually, “It would be a dream come true for us (team) to attend the fair annually and also it would be great if the Athletics Association of Guyana can put on something of this nature and invite overseas teams.”
He further extended his gratitude to the parents who supported the team and sent their children along and also Sir Cleveland Thomas, the Head Master of CWSS for supporting him fully throughout the preparations for the trip.
