‘Gambler’ gets six month jail time for misusing money entrusted to him

A man, who gambled out money entrusted to him, will spend the next six months in jail regretting his action.
The man Troy De Santos converted to his own use, $11,000 dollars, which was given to him by Wendy Wilson to purchase Guinness.
De Santos yesterday admitted to Magistrate Allan Wilson (no relation to the VC) at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court that he took the money and “gambled it out”.
According to the Prosecutor, on December 23 last year, Wilson asked the defendant to buy two cases of the stout, which cost $11,000. The prosecutor said that De Santos never returned with the woman’s goods or the money.
As a result, Wilson made a report to the police who managed to locate and arrest De Santos.
De Santos said that when he was asked by the complaint about the money, he told her that he had lost it. The man said that he was fearful of the woman and did not wish to tell her that he had gambled out her cash.
The prosecution informed the court that while the defendant claimed that he gambled the money away, he initially told arresting ranks that he had used the woman’s money to buy cocaine. De Santos did not challenge the prosecution’s claim and remained silent. He was subsequently sentenced.
