The Corentyne woman, who was brutally stabbed in the head and neck by a bandit on Tuesday
afternoon, is recovering slowly in the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Jaiwantee Sharma also known as ‘Besky’, 49, an employee of Wazir’s Rice Depot of Lot ‘M’ Springlands sustained a slit throat as a result of the attack.
At around 15:30 hrs on Tuesday afternoon, Sharma also known as Besky, was at work when a man entered the store and demanded cash.
According to Wazir Dilchand of Wazir’s Rice Depot, “One Amerindian guy come into the rice depot and acted like a customer and closed in the door and just choke the lady and rob she and slash she throat, either with a knife or a razor; two or three slashes on the head”.
“The other people that rented the building, tried to open the door and [as soon as they did] he (the bandit) dashed away by the Seaside (Corentyne River)”, he remarked.
The injured woman’s daughter, Vidya Sharma, told Kaieteur News yesterday that apart from experiencing severe headaches, her mother is feeling a bit better. She is currently on painkillers and talking a bit.
Up to yesterday, no arrest has been made in relation to the matter nor have the police been able to ascertain whether the young man resides at the local Amerindian Hostel in Corriverton.
