The Special Events Committee and Coaching Department of the Berbice Cricket Board would intensify their coaching programme for junior cricketers in the ancient county as the rainy season affects cricket on the field. The Berbice Cricket Board has stated that coaching of young cricketers in 2012 is the main aim as the Board strives to properly develop all cricketing talents at the junior levels.
Coaching sessions for Under-15 cricketers would be held from Monday 13th after a highly successful first round was organised two weeks ago where 116 cricketers turned up at four venues. On Monday the coaches would be at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground for a session for cricketers from West Berbice, Tuesday 14th February, 2012 at the Berbice High School Ground for New Amsterdam/Canje youths, Wednesday 15th February, 2012 at the Albion Community Centre Ground for Lower Corentyne and Friday 17th February, 2012, for Upper Corentyne.
All sessions start at 15.00 hours (3:00 pm) and cater for cricketers born on or after the 1st September, 1996. All cricketers are required to be properly attired and to walk along with their cricket gears.
A one-day Cricket academy would also be held on Saturday 18th February, 2012 at the Bush Lot Cricket Ground for cricketers from West Berbice. Players from the Under-13 to Under-19 levels are encouraged to attend.
Coaches Julian Moore and Michael Hyles would conduct the Academy which starts at 13:00 hours (1.00pm). A similar Academy would be held at the D’Edward Cricket Ground the following weekend. All cricketers and clubs are asked to contact the Berbice Cricket Board office on 333-2375 or Head coach Julian Moore on 615 9239 for more information.
