The 15-year-old accused of raping a seven-year-old girl last week was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with sexual penetration of a minor below the age of 16.
The accused made his appearance yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
It is alleged that on February 2nd, he had sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16. The matter was called in-camera (behind closed doors) and the accused was not required to plea. The court was told that the accused is currently out on bail for a matter of similar nature.
The accused was remanded to prison, he will have to make his next court appearance tomorrow.
The child, who is a primary school student, was present in the court yesterday and was still unable to walk on her own. There were instances where she had to be lifted bodily by a relative.
Initial reports are that on Wednesday last after school had been dismissed, the girl was waiting for her cousin to pick her up, as is customary.
But it was the teen instead who allegedly rode up on a white bicycle and said that her mother had sent him to collect her for home.
Instead of taking her home, the teen took the child to the seawall where he allegedly raped her. After committing the act, he sent the child down to a nearby trench to wash off the blood on her skin and clothes. He then rode away, leaving the battered child to make her way home.
When she reached home, her mother noticed the blood and questioned the obviously traumatized child, who related the harrowing ordeal. Immediately the police was contacted and they combed the seawall area where they recovered the child’s underwear.
A description of the man was given and angry residents of the community launched a manhunt for him that very night. It did not take them long to capture the suspect who was spared a beating after police quickly arrived to take him into custody.
He was later identified as the alleged rapist.
The child was medically examined shortly after the incident but had to be rushed back to the hospital after she collapsed at home.
