The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has put into focus the upcoming National Sports Commission (NSC) Annual Mashramani tournament, which is expected to commence on Friday February 17 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The tournament will begin with the Pre-Cadets, Cadets and Junior categories that will be staged during that weekend. The senior categories will commence on February 24. The tournament will conclude on February 26 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
“The Annual Mashramani tournament will be used to assess the depth of players, and the GTTA will shortlist players to start preparing for international engagements,” a release from the NSC’s ‘Sport Association of the Year’ is quoted as stating yesterday.
The categories that will be contested include: Boys 8 years & under; Girls 8 years & under; Boys 10 years & under; Girls 10 years & under; Boys 13 years & under; Girls 13 years & under; Boys 15 years & under; Girls 15 years & under; Boys 18 years& under; Girls 18 years & under; Boys Doubles; Girls Doubles; Jnr. Mixed Doubles; 21 years & under open; Women Singles; Men Singles.
The rules, regulations and format of the tournament are: A player that wins the first three games will be declare the winner; the tournament will be played utilising current ITTF rules–11 point game; best of five games; two point’s alternate serve; players are required to be at the playing venue at lease 30 minutes in advance of matches; players are required to submit their names by Tuesday February 14;
NSC/GTTA will arrange knock-up time for players leading up to the tournament; each player will be notified of their group, fixtures and dates of matches;
The fixtures and draws will be done on February 16 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from 5pm and all registered players are invited; late entries will not be accepted; trophies and medals will be awarded to the top three players; the duration of the tournament will depend on the amount of entries, therefore the schedule dates can be changed; an entrance fee will be charged to each player entering the tournament;
Players will be grouped in four with the top two players advancing to the second round of the tournament where there will be a cross-mix of players; players must at least reach the semi-finals in their category to be eligible for the next category.
