A Cumberland, East Canje man, has been jailed for two years after he was caught with one gram of cocaine.
Frankie Babulall appeared on Wednesday before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to narcotics possession for the purpose of trafficking.
According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Donna Grant-Fraser, at around 15:55 hours last Thursday, ranks on mobile patrol were conducting duties in the Sheet Anchor area when they noticed Babulall on the road acting in a suspicious manner. He was challenged, stopped and searched. During the search, ranks found the cocaine concealed in a transparent plastic bag. He was arrested and charged.
In court, Babulall pleaded guilty and admitted that he is a regular user and hustler of the prohibited drugs. In addition to the two years jail term he was also fined $10,000.
