A West Coast Berbice businessman who was abducted and robbed a few weeks ago has identified one of the weapons found on a bandit on Tuesday night, as his.
Kaieteur News understands that the weapon was recovered from the man minutes after he and an accomplice robbed a Rosignol jewellery store and pawn shop on Tuesday.
Police in a press release on Tuesday night said that acting on information received, they arrested a suspect who was found in the Berbice River, in the vicinity of the Berbice River Bridge, holding on to a pontoon.
He was searched and a bag that he had in his possession was found to contain a quantity of jewellery, an unlicensed .32 pistol with 9 matching rounds and an unlicensed .38 snub-nose revolver with four matching rounds.
Police sources said that the suspect has been positively identified by the victims of the Number 22 Bel Air, West Coast Berbice robbery which occurred a few weeks ago, and during which 33-year-old Wazim Shariff was abducted at gunpoint.
Sharriff, a re-migrant businessman had his .32 pistol taken away by the bandits who had demanded $30M ransom for his release.
However, he was later dumped on a lonely road at Drill, Mahaicony before the ransom could be paid.
Kaieteur News also understands that the suspect was also identified as the perpetrator of a lumber yard robbery at Enmore East Coast Demerara, as well as another robbery on the West Coast of Demerara.
