The cycling season in Berbice is expected to pedal off on Sunday when the Flying
Ace Cycle Club of New Amsterdam, Berbice in collaboration with A Ally and Sons chain of stores, stage their annual Anniversary 40 miles race. This is the 12th year that the event is being held. The event this year will be held for the first time at Corriverton in observation of the 5th Anniversary of the store’s Corriverton Depot.
The event is for cyclist of the club only and all the top riders in Berbice are expected to participate.
Recently Managing Director Fizal Ally handed over the sponsorship amount to coordinator of the event cycling coach Randolph Roberts.
The event is expected to pedal off at 09:00hrs in front of the company’s Corriverton Depot opposite the Springlands Police Station and will see the cyclists journeying to in front of Nand Persaud and Company Limited before heading back to its place of origin.
The organizers have arranged the events in such a way that there will be something for everybody.
The first six cyclists to cross the finishing line will receive prizes along with the first three juniors, the first three Juveniles and the first three Females. There will also be 10 sprint prizes on offer. A truck will leave New Amsterdam at 06:00hrs to take cyclist up to the starting point.
All the top finishers apart from monetary awards will also collect trophies and other incentives.
The sponsors and the organizers will be at the presentation ceremony which will be held immediately after the completion of the events.
Cyclists are reminded that they must be properly attired, barring which they will not be allowed to participate. Interested persons are asked to make contact as early as possible with coordinator Randolph Roberts or the sponsors.
The company has been sponsoring top cyclist Neil Reece for the past four years. (Samuel Whyte)
