A young Anna Catherina resident who lured a seven-year-old schoolgirl to the West Demerara seawall and brutally raped her will make his court appearance today.
The 16-year-old man, who was captured by residents, hours after the incident, will appear before a Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate, on a rape charge.
Because of the brutality of the crime, it has angered several residents of the West Coast Demerara community, especially since the victim is still suffering physically from the attack.
On Wednesday last, the seven-year-old made the mistake of going with the stranger, who claimed that her mother had sent him to pick her up from school.
But instead of taking her home, the man reportedly took the child to the seawall where he raped her. “He told her that he gon juk she up if she scream,” the child’s mother told this newspaper.
After committing the act, he allegedly sent the child down to a nearby trench to wash the blood from her skin and clothes.
He then rode away, leaving the battered child to make her way home by herself.
Kaieteur News understands that when the child arrived home, her mother noticed the blood and questioned her. The traumatized child then related the harrowing ordeal.
“When she reach home she fell down in the kitchen and I run and sap she and she recovered. Her skin was in mud and blood,” said the mother.
The police were immediately contacted and they combed the seawall area where they recovered the child’s underwear. A description of the man was given and angry residents of the community searched for him that very night.
It did not take them long to capture the suspect who was spared a beating after police quickly arrived to take him into custody. Kaieteur News understands that the man denied committing the act, putting the blame on his brother.
However, the child has reportedly positively identified him. Other students also said that he was the man who had picked the child up from school on Wednesday.
According to a source, the child was medically examined shortly after the incident but had to be rushed back to the hospital yesterday after she collapsed at home.
“She is still complaining of tummy pain,” her mother told this newspaper on Sunday.
Meanwhile, police sources on the West Coast of Demerara have described the suspect as a “pervert”.
They disclosed that four years ago he was charged for the attempted buggery of a six year old boy. It is not yet clear what came out of that matter.
