As Guyana’s mining industry continues to expand more associations are being
created to represent miners’ interests.
The Rupununi Miners’ Association is one of the latest groups to be formed targeting all miners, particularly those from Amerindian communities.
According to Samuel Lindauer of Aishalton, 47 miners from various communities including Parabara, Wakadanau and Marudi formed the association during a meeting, which they attended in Aishalton Village, South Rupununi on Sunday.
Five committee members from different mining areas were elected with the Chairman being Sugreem Singh; Vice-Chairman, Leevan Joannis; Secretary, Ermelinda Joseph; Assistant Secretary, Clifford Winter and Treasure Brandon Antone.
