-stations for five hinterland areas
Government has approved the employment of an additional 84 ranks for the Guyana Fire Service.
This is according to Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee.
During a press conference last week, the Minister said that already the Fire Service has a fixed 427 ranks and it has reached that capacity. However, the additional ranks will help to facilitate the expansion programme which the Fire Service will soon be embarking on.
“We have been expanding by establishing a number of fire stations at different locations. In addition we have been hiring auxiliary staff to support the professional fire fighter at fire stations but with this it will bring the establishment to 511 fire fighters,” Rohee pointed out.
The additional staff is important because it is the plan to place more fire stations in the hinterland locations. These locations will include Mahdia, Lethem, Port Kaituma, Mabaruma and Kwakwani.
For the hinterland location, those stations will be equipped with All Terrain Fire Tenders and portable pumps which can be carried on trailers or in boats.
