Dear Editor,
Not so long ago, one of the dailies carried a featured report interview with an aspiring cycling hopeful “Alonzo Greaves” to the London 2012 Olympics and to my mind, it was one of the most impressive and candid interviews I have perused in recent times.
I base this on the fact that from my personal understanding, should this cyclist be fortunate in qualifying for the international and grandeur of an event as a wild card entrant, he is fully aware of what the competition is all about that awaits him in London with the elites in the cycling world.
He did mention in that interview that the tempo will be of very high standards and something to the effect that additional and intense preparation will be needed outside of Guyana.
I hope situations will be put in place with the relevant authorities that overlook this discipline of sport for this hopeful and any other who may be joining him from the local cycling federation as they embark on their dream of attending and competing at the Olympics…….The Business Community can also seriously consider this cause…In layman’s terms, funding is very very, very important.
To those making up the contingent from Guyana to the 30th Olympiad in London, it should be an honour to represent your flag and do so respectfully…..
