Former Minister of Tourism Manniram Prashad will now be heading the new Gaming Authority Board for which Cabinet has given its approval.
This was announced by Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee at a press conference last Friday.
“We have decided to reconstitute the Gaming Authority and this is in accordance with Section 321 ‘C’ of the Gambling Prevention Act,” Rohee said.
The Authority is tasked with overseeing the casino operations at Princess Hotel.
They also have the function to issue licence under Section 32 of the Gambling Prevention Act; monitor operation of the casino, administer the regulation of the Act and advise the Minister with respect to the admonition of the gambling regulation.
Other members of the board include Oscar Phillips, former Minister of Labour, Manzoor Nadir and Indranuath Haralsingh.
Minister Rohee however indicated that one other person is yet to be named as a board member.
