Organizers urge Horseracing entities to give fans their money’s worth
The recently postponed mega horse racing event organized by the Winner Circle/Jumbo Jet Auto Sales in collaboration with Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club will be staged on March 4.
An action packed day is anticipated as eight highly competitive races are carded. Guyana’s top horses, who are mainly imports from the USA, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, will battle for top honours in the feature B-Class and Lower Event. This race carries a first prize of $1,200,000 and the Banks DIH trophy. The distance is 1600 meters.
Other races on the programme will see the three year old Derby for horses born and bred in the West Indies. The winner will gallop away with $600,000 & trophy. The distance is 1200 meters. Also, there is a three year old event for Guyana bred horses. The distance is 1200 meters and the winner will take away $300,000 and trophy.
The newly introduced four year old event for horses born and bred in Guyana and the West Indies is expected to be a ‘Scorcher’. The winner will take away $400,000 and a trophy. The distance is 1200 meters. Similarly, the winner of the E-Class and Lower event will cart off $400,000 and trophy. The distance is also 1200 meters.
There are also races for horses classified G-Class and Lower, I-Class and Lower and J-Class and Lower. These races carries winners’ purses of $300,000, $200,000 and $150,000 respectively with all the distances being 1200 meters.
As always the champion jockey, trainer and stable will receive trophies compliments of Ramesh Sunich of The Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
Organisers are also seeking ways to improve crowd attendance and horse entries at all race meets and it is being suggested that clubs and promoters do not charge fans more than .001% of the highest first prize paid.
For example if the highest first prize is $500,000, then a patron should not be charged more than $500 for admission into the ground, entrance fees for horse should not exceed 10% of the first prize in feature race. Jockeys and trainers should also be paid 10% of winnings. A $3,000 fee should be paid by jockeys for losing mounts.
Further information about the race can be gained by contacting Gansham Singh 600-3626, Lenny Singh 642-3172, Jumbo Jet Auto Sales (Chandu) 624-9063, Romel Jagroop 624-1798 or Compton Sancho 690-0569.
