Former Regional Chairman of Region 6, East Berbice Corentyne Zulfikar Mustapha has been slapped with a $50M lawsuit by Member of Parliament Dr Veerasammy Ramayyah for libel committed against him.
Dr. Ramayyah is a specialist in herbal medicine, and resides at Lot 64 Whim, Corentyne, Berbice.
The writ was filed by Attorney at Law Charrandass Persaud on behalf of his client who is claiming damages in excess of $50M for libel published by the defendant at about 19:00 hrs on 8th November at a public meeting held at Whim Middle dam in which Mustapha called the Dr. a “quack”.
Mustapha, of Lot 355 Bloomfield Corentyne Berbice, is also sued for aggravated or exemplary damages and costs and any other orders as the court deems just and proper.
Dr Ramayyah holds degrees in the Liberal Arts, Political Science and Sociology and a minor degree in Psychology and Economics. He also holds a MA in Liberal Studies and a PhD in Psychology.
He has also been trained and is a practitioner of alternative medicine in Guyana. He holds diplomas in Iridology and Ayurvedic Medicine and is also a member of the American Botanical Council.
Mustapha served as Regional Chairman from 2006 until the last election in 2011.
The writ was served on Mr. Mustapha and he has 10 days in which to reply. Mustapha will have to appear before a judge in the High Court in Berbice.
