Come rain or sun the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) Race Meet scheduled for this Sunday, at the South Dakota Circuit will definitely take place and fans are being urged to converge at the venue to see some of the rising stars in the sport.
A release coming from the Organisers stated that even though a large part of the country is currently inundated from persistent rainfall, the Meet will still be held and competitors have already committed to participating in the event which starts at 10:00 hrs.
Among the categories to be contested are the Rookies, ‘B’ Class Superbikes, Groups 2A&B, go-karters and 125cc bikes and most of the prominent racers in the respective groups have confirmed participation.
In the Rookies division, the Ali brothers Roshan and Asad will once again attempt to dominate the opposition, but according to a source they are expected to receive stiff challenges from the rest of the field.
In the Group 2A, Roshan will have to be at his level best to repel the opposition that includes Chet Singh, whose machine is as reliable as they come, while, Shairaz Roshandin, Jad Rahaman and Syed Hassan have all shown in the past the ability to win championships.
Then there is Aaron Bethune and father and son combination of Harold and Denzel Hopkinson, who though they are still to stamp their authority in the division have the machines to create havoc on a given day.
The 2B should provide similar excitement and exhilarating action with Danny Persaud, Shairaz Roshandin, Afraz Allie, Gavin Gouveia and Vishal Sawh, all capable of producing nerve tingling battles.
The ‘B’ Class Superbikes division is crowded with ambitious riders and that characteristic alone should provide the impetus for some competitive skirmishes, while some may want to impress to press those responsible for their progression to the elite class to do so with immediate effect.
Among those anticipated to take starting orders are reigning champion Carey Griffith and Kwame Ridley, while the go-karts for seniors and juniors should generate some scorching finishes.
In the senior category, Stanley Ming, Kevin Jeffrey, Mark Vieira, Marcus Fiedtkou, Ravi Singh and Shane Ally are the top contenders and with Jeffrey and Vieira moving into unchartered waters competitively in this segment, it is obvious that they would want to make an instant impact.
However, Singh is the current karting champion in Trinidad and Tobago, while Fiedtkou, Ally and Ming can be considered the professionals locally and clearly would not allow trespassers to enter their domain without putting up a fight.
The juniors are all eager to go, especially in light of the disappointment of last weekend’s event which had to be cancelled due to the waterlogged state at the club’s Headquarters so with the impatience and exuberance all bottled up the fans could be in for a real treat.
The motor racing season starts in earnest on Sunday so ensure that you are there.
