Jan 31, 2012 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
I wish to associate myself with the sentiments expressed by Ms. Joyce Sinclair in her letter published in your newspaper on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 concerning the frequent use of the words “up for grabs” by some of our radio and television announcers reporting on sporting events in Guyana.
Ms. Sinclair, in my opinion, asserts with justification that the phrase “up for grabs” is ugly.
I suggest that our announcers can indicate to the listeners and viewers that the trophies are “open to competition” or some similar formulation.
