-emerging young stars anticipated to take centre stage
Even the arrival of Trinidadian karting champion Ravi Singh is not anticipated to overshadow the performances of the young emerging stars of the sport when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) hosts its Fun-day today, at the club’s Headquarters on Albert Street.
Singh known more in Guyana for his dominance of the Group 3 category in circuit racing is also an outstanding karter and he has arrived in Guyana to challenge the local speedsters in what is expected to be a mouth watering showdown for regional supremacy.
However, even his exploits will have to be exceptional to upstage the rivalry between the upcoming young guns who’re boasting about not playing second fiddle to anyone and has promised to produce the exhilaration and daredevilry that fans love to see.
Among those lined up to take to the starting line include: Elliot Vieira, Matthew Vieira, Mikhail Seereram, Denzel Hopkinson, Raymond Seebarran, Alex Fiedtkou, Matthew and Jonathan Phang and Edward and Alex Powers for the boys, while the girls will be spearheaded by Britney Seereram, Emma Vieira, Stacy and Serena Ming and Alexandria Phang.
There will be a feature event which is the Endurance Race which will last for one hour and that will be competed for among the seniors with Kevin Jeffrey, Stanley Ming, Mark Vieira, Shane Ally, Wayne Vieira and Marcus Fiedtkou headlining the field.
“This race is for competitors over the age of 30 years and no more than nine machines owned by the club with an allotment of three drivers are permitted to drive during the period of the race and they must have a total body weight of no less than 450 lbs combined. The three designated drivers cannot have less than 450 lbs, but will be allowed to weigh in excess of that,” Wayne Vieira told this newspaper during an interview.
The Shifter and Rotax karts will be in use throughout the day and starting time is 14:00 hrs.
There will be food and drinks on sale throughout the day at the Pit Stop Bar.
