Ninvalle says LABA is in good hands with Capt. Eon Murray at the helm
Parliamentary Secretary Steve Ninvalle on Friday evening told basketball fans and players in Linden that: “You are in good hands with Army Captain Eon Murray as its president, because he leads from the front and the current LABA Executive must be congratulated for the commencement of its League.”
Ninvalle was at the time addressing those clubs and players who were present at the opening of the Trophy Stall Regulation Seed Tournament League at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court following the march past of clubs.
However, the first game of the competition was halted due to a downpour with Retrieve Raiders leading Block 22 Flames 32-13 in the second quarter which abruptly ended the night’s proceedings.
In light of the late start of the evening’s opening ceremony in front of other LABA Executives which included president of LABA Capt. Eon Murray, Ninvalle said, “Sometimes you start on the wrong footing but you don’t end on the wrong footing because you started (the march past) with not many of the teams being here and started a little late.” Ninvalle also urged the executives of LABA to “See how much they can do to form or create an inter-block tournament because it was done very well at the football level and when people play for the communities you actually find a little more fire and enthusiasm when they play at this level.”
It must be noted that the LABA in 2009 promoted an inter block tournament where Central Mackenzie emerged as the winners of that competition, which was held between the months of August and September.
In the absence of females teams participating in the march past, Ninvalle cautioned saying, “By the next season the LABA should have females teams play basketball, since it is seems to be a male dominated sport and things are changing, so look and see how much can be done to bring females towards the sport. If other associations see Linden have female basketball teams once again, Berbice will want to do also and also Georgetown will want to develop their basketball teams as Linden would have done.”
The Trophy Stall League championship continues today with two more matches where at 6:00pm GTS Glands Trucking Service Bulls take on Amelia’s Ward Jets and the second match will see Wismar Pistons up against Kashif and Shanghai Kings at 8:30pm.
Friday’s matches are rescheduled for tomorrow at the same venue where Block 22 Flames meet Retrieve Raiders in the first game and the second brings together Victory Valley Royals and GTS Bulls.
