Three men appeared on Friday at the Springlands Magistrates’ Court, charged with attempted murder of Bijai ‘Rohan’ Ramdass, 31, of Lot 41 Grant 1806, Crabwood Creek and 17- year- old Hazrat ‘Boy’ Abrahim, of Lot 114 Grant 1806, on January 16 in Crabwood Creek.
The men reportedly surrendered themselves to police at Springlands, Thursday afternoon.
Dennis ‘Diggles’ Veerasammy, Zairullah called ‘Julie’, and Mohammed Arun Shaw appeared before Magistrate Krishendat Persaud and were all refused bail. The main attacker, Intiaaz ‘Taliban’ Shaw and one other are still on the run.
Ramdass and Abrahim were attacked by Shaw and his crew following a disagreement over payments concerning a plantain cultivation and business in which they were partners.
Ramdass’ brother, Jagdeo ‘Spragga’ Ramdass, told Kaieteur News that he has been receiving death threats from the friends of the arrested men. He is currently staying at a hotel out of fear for his safety. He was present during the initial attack and saw when his brother and the teen got shot while they were in a boat in the Crabwood Creek Backdam. He made good his escape.
“Right now, me make up me passport and me want to leave this country, because them guys say that they going to kill me and Abrahim (the teen), because we are the evidence…I am a little scared,” he related.
Abrahim has been released from hospital while Ramdass has been paralyzed from his waist down. “His two foot na move. He one eyes damage up. The pellets passed through his eye and go through the eye on the back. He is paralyzed for life,” the man’s brother said.
“Abrahim coming around. He got discharged from hospital but still feeling pain in his ribs. It had to be just one more centimeter more or the bullet would have caught his lungs”, he related.
The accused are set to re-appear in court on Friday, February 3.
