Today is the start of the 2012 Horseracing season in Guyana and all roads lead to the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club at No6 West Coast Berbice in collaboration with the Winners Circle Pool Hall for their grand One day horse racing event. Eight races are carded and a mammoth $8M in cash and trophies are up for grabs. With such a well put together package that includes Mingles Sound Machine providing musical accompaniment the venue is expected to be full to capacity as fans from all parts of the country will throng one of their favourite venues for the spectacle expected to unfold.
The feature B class event sponsored by beverage Giants Banks DIH is expected to bring to the fore the clash of the five top horses in the country at the moment and the question is, who will win the feature event and race away with the coveted $1.2M top money and Banks DIH trophy. The five horses in the running come from two stables and that makes it even more interesting. The Message and Donut Prince are from The Colin Elcock, Delmur racing stable while Jet Set Go and Grande De Roja and Marathon Man represent the Jumbo Jet stable.
To pick a winner will be a difficult task with all the animals looking in excellent condition at practice during the week. The Message seems to be back to top form and could start as the favourite. Donut Prince has not run for a while having being injured , but with an upset win in the Guyana Cup last year, showed what the animal is capable of.
Jet Set go is a champion sprinter, but showed recently that it can also handle the distance, while Grande De Roja showed that it is a strong finisher, while Marathon Man as it name suggest is capable of doing anything. The distance, which is 1600M, should suit all the animals and a hectic battle is anticipated.
Other animals set to competed in the event are Who So Ever, Fresh Again, Miss Karina, Clever cat and Miss Orientate. All the other events are 1200M races. The event for three year old horses Born and Bred in Guyana and West Indies will once again see Settle in Seattle and Serenity battle for supremacy with the likes of Windy war, Rock Sonia, Storm in a Tea Cup, Big Red, Rosetta, Happy Choice and Feels like Gold looking to create an upset for the $500,000 top prize and trophy.
Questions will once again be asked as to who will win the newly introduced 4 year old event. In a lineup that includes the likes of Technology, Swing Easy, Work Force, Damascus Dream, Captain Crook, Bridal Stone Corner, Super cat, nothing forgetting Week end Surprise, Peace and Love, Awesome Warrior, Northern dancer and Sabrina’s Joy running for an encouraging $400,000 and trophy anything could happen.
Night Crescendo, Top of the Line, Got to Go, Home Bush Baby, Majestic, Bailiff and Face the Music are all top runners and makes the E and Lower event a clash to behold as the animals go after each other for the $400,000 at stake.
It is expected to be another keen contest between I want Revenge and Watch My Shadow in the three year old race for Guyana Bred and Born horses. However Baby Flyer, Cat Thief, Blessings, Little Tip Top, Bad Romance and News Time will have news for them as they compete for the $300,000 top prize and trophy.
To pick a winner in the G class gallop is a serious commitment with the likes of The Gap, Miracle Run, South Sea, Bridal Stone Corner, Peace and Love, Stormy Deal, Damascus Dream, Appealing Harvest, Gabriel’s gold, Miss Regina and Dream Girl looking for the upset to take away the $300,000 winners money and trophy.
Between ‘I’ and lower animals and the race for Division 1, 2 and 3 animals there are over 25 entries and with the prize monies set at $200,00 and $150,000 respectively those races will see the best of the lower class horses in action.
The top individual performers including top Jockey and stable will receive accolades compliments of Trophy Stall Bourda Market. Music will be supplied by Mingles Sound Machine and there will be a grand after race party at the Winners Circle Pool Hall at NO22, Bel Air Village West Coast Berbice.
