Ronald Daniels was on Thursday sentenced to 23 years’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Daniels was convicted by Justice Roxanne George at the Suddie High Court for the murder of Indar Gajadar, also called ‘Son’. The incident occurred on February 27, 2007.
Prior to the manslaughter charge, the report added Daniels was charged with break and enter and larceny on December 12, 2006. He was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment but reportedly escaped.
Daniels, in his verbal statement in the high court, said he worked for Gajadar, a chainsaw operator, who he claimed owed him some money. He added on February 27,2007, at Onderneeming back dam, Daniels went to a camp owned by one Jairam and stole a gun.
Daniels, the high court learnt, went into the Onderneeming back dam and saw Gajadar and one Marcus Stull cutting wood. As Daniels approached Gajadar, he told Gajadar to drop his chain saw. Instead, Daniels told the court, Gajadar switched off the equipment and picked up a cutlass and began advancing.
Daniels said that it was then that he shot Gajadar and told Stull to run for his ‘f….. life’. Daniels also indicated that he picked up the chainsaw. He remained at large until December 20, 2008.
Stull, soon after the shooting, reported the matter and after an identification parade held after the arrest, Daniels was identified.
Justice Roxanne George sentenced Daniels, while taking into consideration, his three previous convictions.
