In recognition of the importance of eye- care in Guyana, the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Laparkan Trading Limited held its first Eye Care Outreach programme yesterday at the W.M Fogarty’s Building, Water Street, Georgetown.
According to officials, the two day outreach programme is another step towards making health services very accessible and client friendly.
The initiatives not only benefited staff and customers of Fogarty’s but also neighboring entities and persons who were desirous of having an eye test done.
An Ophthalmologist and a Refractionist were on hand to address the needs of the many who gathered to have their eyes screened.
The service is free of cost, from 9:00hrs to 16:00hrs.
Patients who require follow up treatment, such as surgery for cataract, will be registered by Ministry of Health Staffers at Fogarty’s and sent to the Port Mourant Hospital on a scheduled basis.
According to a press release the Ministry of Health in partnering with the Private Sector, has demonstrated its commitments to continue its work in improving access to eye care service throughout the country.
Health Minister Dr. Bheri Ramsaran in making brief remarks at the launching of the programme yesterday said that this week’s event is the “kick off” of a long term partnership with the Laparkan group of companies.
He assured that the Ministry will be providing teams on a regular and scheduled basis at the venue for the rest of the year.
