A mother and her three children are now homeless after a fire of suspected electrical origin gutted their
home at Sideline Dam, Ogle, East Coast Demerara.
Fortunately, another house, which is located in the same yard, was saved. The fire started at around 12:15 yesterday, reportedly where the GPL meter is attached to the house, which was located at the back of the yard and was occupied by Parbattie Sukhoo and her three children.
.Eyewitnesses said that since the fire started at the entrance of the house, it was impossible for anyone to enter the building to save anything.
By that time the Fire Service was summoned to the area but the entire building was destroyed.
Sukhoo said her house was fully furnished but could not give an estimate to her lost.
Meanwhile residents of the area are calling on the Guyana Power and Light Inc. to compensate the family.
Residents said that they have been complaining to the power Company about a faulty transformer in the area for quite a while but they received no proper response.
“Every time the rain fall and the wire start sparking we got to run and turn off we main switch because the meter does start jumping,” one resident said.
Residents further complained that this is the second fire in recent time in the same area.
