The driver who is believed to have been involved in Wednesday’s fatal accident on the Kuru Kuru
Public Road, Soesdyke has been arrested. Kaieteur News was told that the man was detained sometime yesterday and is currently assisting with investigations.
On Wednesday, a green sand truck struck down 58-year-old Ronville Roberts who was riding his bicycle after leaving his worksite at the Barama Plywood Factory, Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara.
After Roberts and his bike fell to the ground, the driver of the truck reportedly drove away without rendering assistance.
The injured Roberts who was a security guard was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was treated and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
However he succumbed when he arrived at the GPHC.
The truck which carries the name Zaman and not Zion as was previously reported, was later found abandoned further up the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Investigations are ongoing.
