Six-year-old Zeneiah Loo, who left Guyana on Friday for a hospital in Trinidad
to have brain surgery, has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Community Hospital of Seventh Day Adventists where she has since been placed on a respirator to assist with breathing.
According to the girl’s aunt, Thea Persaud who gave an update on her condition on Wednesday, the little girl’s condition became more complicated and doctors were forced to suspend the surgery.
Persaud disclosed that there was a massive build-up of fluids in her brain, some three times the normal amount and this prevented doctors from operating on her. “The doctor said he will have to do two set of surgeries. The first stage, they have to get all the fluids out of her brain, and they did that on Monday”, Persaud said. However, more fluids are building up.
“But she’s not breathing on her own; they had to stop because she depending on the (life) machine. They have to wait until she breathing on her own.”
Loo was diagnosed a few weeks ago with a brain tumour. She was becoming tired quickly and was unable to walk.
Some 75% of the cost of the surgery was raised last week through media intervention and personal appeals as well as TV telethons hosted on HJTV by Shonnet Moore, Sarah and Simone Savory which allowed for Zeneiah to leave for Trinidad with her mom, Natassie, and dad, Roger.
