Cullen Young Warriors recorded consecutive victories as the South Essequibo Cricket Committee U-19 twenty\20 Tapeball competition commenced last Sunday at Zorg on the Essequibo Coast.
In the day’s first encounter Cullen defeated the home team by 103 runs. The visitors batted first and piled up a mammoth 281-8 off their allocation of overs. Opener Ricardo Peters led with 62 and got valuable support from Andy Pearce and Hemnauth Deochand with 46 and 41 respectively.
Medium pacer Vijay Surujpaul grabbed 3-26 for Zorg who mustered 178 all out in 17.3 overs. Jerome Mahase top scored with 75, while Surujpaul returned to hit 33 as Stephen Peters claimed 3-19 for the winners.
In the second match, Cullen got past El Dorado U-19 by 60 runs. Cullen took first turn at the crease and made 129-3 after the game was reduced to 10 overs due to rain. Peters continued his fine form with an unbeaten 69, while Pradesh Rooplall assisted with 29 not out as Raj Parbattie took 2-14.
El Dorado in reply were bowled out for 69 in 9.3 overs. Alvin Singh was the only batsman that offered any resistance with 30. Ricardo Peters 4-16 and Stephen Peters 3-10 did the damage with the ball for Cullen.
The competition continues on Saturday with Zorg facing Adventure, while on Sunday El Dorado will play Zorg. All matches are slated for Zorg cricket ground.
