Dear Sir,
I am a brother of Melania Torres who is currently involved in the land dispute with Minister Pauline Sukhai in Moruca and I have been following up the land dispute for quite some time now until it escalated publicly.
I have lived there with my family (mother, father, brothers & sisters) for at least 17 years before I started working out.
My immediate concern is the manner in which Mr. Leonard Torres is handling the matter and exercising power. I was made to understand from my sister that last week Tuesday while she was not at home Mr. Torres along with the Toshao, Village Councilors and Police broke the lock on the door and placed another lock.
My sister was then informed by Mr. Torres that she could go and move her personal belongings and move out now.
She told him to get all the people who were there with him to come and witness that she was moving out everything but he said that they don’t have time.
My sister has two young children (girls) and both are going to school. Since Wednesday they have not been going to school because their school clothes are locked inside the house. My sister’s clothes are also in the house.
I want to know under what condition did the village council, police and Mr Torres change the lock? Why couldn’t they wait for her? Are the village councilors serving people in the best interest or having favoritism in the best interest of Minister Sukhai?
Mr. Torres left the village for many, many years. Why is he influencing the village council so easily when he is not even a resident anymore? I will always stand by my sister’s side and by her family and will see to the end of this dispute.
Thank you,
Concerned brother
