They’ve consistently been overshadowed by the more high profiled competitors such as Andrew King, Kevin Jeffrey, Mark Vieira, Ryan Rahaman, Stephen Vieira and a few others, but the ‘new kids on the block’ have vowed to change all of that and seize the opportunity to replace their more illustrious counterparts come Sunday, January 29, during the GMR&SC Fun-Day, at the club’s facility on Albert Street.
The club will be hosting go-kart races for the seasoned and the young and the latter have promised to steal the show with their exhibition of skills that will thrill the anticipated large turnout of fans.
Elliot Vieira, Matthew Vieira, Nikhail Seereram, Denzil Hopkinson, Raymond Seebarran, Alex Fiedtkou, Matthew and Jonathan Phang and Edward and Alex Powers will line up for the boys, while the girls will be spearheaded by Britney Seereram, Emma Vieira, Stacy and Serena Ming and Alexandria Phang.
Speaking with designated spokesperson Alex Powers during last week, he said that they group have been busy putting in the seat time and he expects a keen battle among the boys, but cautioned also that the girls are good enough to challenge them for the spotlight.
Powers added that they are extremely pleased that the club has initiated the programme to accommodate them and they will be going all out to make the day an exciting one that the fans will enjoy.
Apart from the juniors, there will also be races for the seniors and that too promises to be enthralling with racers such as Marcus Fiedtkou, Kevin Jeffrey, Stanley Ming Snr and Mark Vieira listed to compete.
A one-hour Endurance race has been slated as the feature event and according to coordinator Wayne Vieira that race should provide a lot of excitement.
“This race is for competitors over the age of 30 years and no more than nine machines owned by the club with an allotment of three drivers are permitted to drive during the period of the race and they must have a total body weight of no less than 450 lbs combined.
“The three designated drivers cannot have less than 450 lbs, but will be allowed to weigh in excess of that,” Vieira said.
Starting time is 14:00 hrs.
