GASA to start year with ‘January Splash’ on Saturday @ Colgrain Pool

With the new Olympic size Swimming Pool now available to local athletes, the sport of swimming is anticipated to really kick off this year with athletes being able to better prepare for regional and international competition.
The local governing body, Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) in an effort to get athletes, parents, fans and supporters all hyped up for what is anticipated to be an exciting year, will run off a mini competition dubbed ‘January Splash’ on Saturday at Colgrain Pool, Camp Street.
While there will be events for all of the traditional age-groups (8-&-Under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17 and 18-&-Over), GASA is particularly encouraging the young swimmers to participate.
For these young swimmers, there will be 25 yard events (just one length of the pool) and kickboard races which will include events for those swimmers who are not yet confident with the full stroke. The more experienced swimmers will have 50 yard events.
Members from all the clubs are asked to come out in their numbers and participate. GASA is also extending an invitation to members of the public to come out and take part.
The main attraction of the day is expected to be the much talked about ‘Parents Race’. Kaieteur Sport understands that many of the parents (male & female) have been working out fervently over the past few days in preparation for the big showdown.
A minimal entry fee of $200 will be charged for each event with warm up set to start GASA to start year with ‘January Splash’ on Saturday @ Colgrain Pool  09:00hrs and competition, one hour later.GASA to start year with ‘January Splash’ on Saturday @ Colgrain Pool .
