Imagine you have to take a Mathematics test that you are not ready for. Almost certain you’ll fail; your sister is known as the “Mathematician” in her class, think! You, Maths test, your sister, mathematician, -you guys have the same height, face, skin colour, and attend the same school. Problem fixed! And neither do you have to actually take the test nor fail it.
This is one of the exciting scenarios that Radha, Rajshri and Reenica Pandey Mansaram trio has enjoyed; without their mother ever knowing of course. They live at Cotton Field, Essequibo Coast.
The girls, who are well known for not only being triplets, but for being very respectful and decent as well, observed their 17th birthday by donating to and spending time with the children of the Joshua House Children’s Home, in November.
Even though the girls don’t have access to the “always talked about” night life in the city of Georgetown, they maintained that their lives are very exciting and enjoyable.
Playing hilarious tricks on their parents and associates are among some of the things that the trio does for fun.
A few months ago, Radha introduced herself to a girl whom she thought was a new member of their community. The girl, though she appeared to be, was not pleasant and started bullying and teasing Radha. Being of the coy nature that she is, Radha did not say anything, the teasing however, began to get frequent, and Radha would just go home and cry.
A few days later her sister, Rajshri, found out about the bully in her sister’s life and decided to confront her.
As dusk crept in one evening, Radha was heading to the Mandir (Hindu Temple), when her bully came into her path, with her head bowed down, Radha tried to swerve out of the girl’s passageway, but she wouldn’t move; the bully now tried to chuck Radha. Just then, the girl noticed someone with Radha’s face standing behind Radha; it was Rajshri. She identified herself as Radha’s ghost.
The three stood there in the dark night as the atmosphere got tense. With a little help from the moonlight, the scene looked like one taken right out of a horror movie. Even Radha herself said she was confused and got a bit scared. A sudden scream and the bully made good her escape, not even looking back.
The girls joked that they were not proud of their actions to scare someone but the incident did give them something to remember and laugh about.
Their mother, Devika, admitted that even she has trouble telling the girls apart at times; she recalled weeks after her girls were born when she had to dress them in differently coloured clothes.
“Sometimes I used to get mixed up and feed one twice when the other ain’t get feeding yet,” Devika said.
The woman also recalled an incident that occurred recently when the two older girls, Radha and Rajshri, both of whom are slightly taller than Reenica, got dressed in the same outfits and demanded that their mother tell them apart.
This she said was heartrending. She felt horrible since she couldn’t tell the girls apart. But then as she was losing hope she said she saw the difference in their eyes.
Every happy moment, every tear they shed was visible from their eyes, the window of their hearts.
Other conflicts would also occur in cases when one sister does something wrong and the other gets blamed for it, or when one sister approaches the other’s friends pretending to be the wrong one and causing a tiff.
Though this situation is not very prevalent in the Mansaram’s home, it is what it is and it does happen and causes disagreements at times.
But while their physical features could fool anyone, they can be easily identified by their personalities, unless of course they mimic the other really well. I was surprised at the fact that they were so very different from each other.
Radha remained the devotional, moralistic and coy of the three; Rajshri on the other hand is the total opposite. While she is also a bit devotional to Christ, she loves music, dancing, she is also very chatty; the baby Reenica however, is the smart one, the one who is into books and school, the one who manages television and play time.
Despite them being so different, these girls are very close, and are no different from ordinary siblings, except in some cases, as they sense when the other is in pain.
The girls have an older sister named Kavita whom they adore and are no less close to than each other, or even more in times of quarrels.
