A Number 55 Village, Corentyne watchman was brutally chopped to death by a co-worker
just after 23:00 hrs on Friday.
Rohan ‘Pujarie’ Basdeo, 38, was at a cattle ranch in the Number 56 Backdam where he was performing his nightly duties as a watchman. According to his nephew, Vishundat Basdeo, 20, his uncle was with a friend and co-worker named ‘Ramesh’, said to be in his twenties and they were imbibing alcohol together.
“He and a friend were in there. Me ain’t know the person. Chacho [Basdeo] go upstairs in the hammock (at the ranch house). Me ain’t know if they had any argument at the bottom [house]”, he related.
“The person ran up with two cutlasses in his hands and he pushed the door and he started to chop,” he reported.
Basdeo noted that he was downstairs and heard chops. It was very dark. He stated that he jumped through a window and ran towards the Public road and called for help.
“Me come out a road and tell me ‘poowah’ and so and made a report at the Number 51 Station and then we went back into the backdam”. When we go back, we see Ramesh and he came out with knife and cutlass in his hands”, Basdeo stated.
The suspect left the murder scene and went back over to his camp which was located a stone’s throw from Basdeo’s camp where he had just committed the murder.
The dead man’s relatives then entered the house and saw a pool of blood “and started to holler” He was with his underwear and he skin was sheer blood and the whole inside of the house was sheer blood,” the young Basdeo recalled.
Basdeo alleged that the suspect has a history of committing violent acts. “He kill he daddy and so, and he stabbed up people at the back dam before”, he alleged.
Police have since arrested the suspect.
