Fifty-nine year-old Composer and Music Teacher Tyrone Arjune, who hails from the Cinderella
County of Essequibo, was declared the winner of the GT&T 10/10 Softball Song competition; his entry emerging as the best from a field of 93 entrants.
Arjune, who hails from the village of Cotton Field on the Essequibo Coast, pocketed the winners’ prize of $75,000 for the song ‘It is our game’.
The top 10 entries were scrutinised by the Project Directors after being selected out of the entire field by Music Director Sean Bhola, Promotional Representative Kirk Jardine and GT&T Marketing Officer Abena Fung. The winning lyrics were then presented to Kross Colors Studios which produced the song.
Arjune is no stranger to the music scene in Guyana, apart from being a Composer and Music Teacher for the past 15-years; he has produced a CD for NCERD entitled “RITES & RIDDEMS” which is based on HIV/AIDS Awareness. He was also a member of the judging panel for the National Calypso competition.
He received his prize at the official launch of the 3rd GT&T 10/10 Softball competition which was held on Tuesday last at the Company’s BlackBerry Office, Brickdam.
The GT&T 10/10 Softball Song competition was launched in 2011 and application forms were distributed countrywide via the print media.
